Moldova takes part in the Winter Olympic Games for the seventh time. In PyeongChang, the country is represented by two athletes, IPN reports.
The 21-year-old cross-country skiing athlete Nicolae Gaiduc carried Moldova’s flag. He enters the competition on February 16. Cristopher Hoerl will compete earlier. He didn’t take part in the opening ceremony as didn’t feel well.
Moldova’s team includes coaches Nadejda Bria and Hans Frick, of the National Olympic and Sports Committee, and Cristina Vasilianov and Larisa Popova. The Committee’s president Nicolae Juravschi is also present in PyeongChang.
The 2018 Winter Olympic Games involve a record number of athletes, from 92 countries.
Moldova achieved the best result at the Winter Olympics in 2006, when biathlete Natalia Levcenkova ranked eighth.
