The National Unity Party (PUN) decided to withdraw Vlad Țurcanu, whom they fielded for MP in Hâncești constituency No. 38, and to unconditionally support independent candidate Grigore Cobzac, who has the biggest chances of beating the candidates of the Party of Socialists and the Democratic Party. PUN president Octavian Țîcu told a news conference that by Grigore Cobzac’s participation in elections, such criteria as meritocracy, knowing of realities in constituency and of authority at the national level are met, IPN reports.
In the elections of February 24, 2019, Grigore Cobzac won over 8,000 votes in Hâncești constituency, this being the second result in this constituency. Octavian Țîcu called on all the supporters of the PUN in this district to vote for Grigore Cobzac in the March 15 elections and to offer this way a mandate of MP to a person with pro-European and Romanian views.
PUN first vice president Vlad Țurcanu noted that the PUN’s decision is an attempt to establish a team working method with competitors from the same side of the political spectrum. Grigore Cobzac can win the seat of MP. “We do not leave and do not withdraw from this election campaign. We will now support Grigore Cobzac,” stated Vlad Țurcanu.
Their support for Grigore Cobzac was also announced by the Hâncești town organization of the Action and Solidarity Party.
For the new parliamentary elections of March 15, the Electoral Council of the Hâncești Electoral Constituency No. 38 registered eight initiative groups for collecting signatures in support of candidates for MP. Three candidates have been registered so far. These are: Ion Mereuță of the Democratic Party, Ștefan Gațcan of the Party of Socialists, and Olesea Stamate of the Action and Solidarity Party. February 13, 2020 is the last day when applications to have candidates for MP registered can be filed.
