The National Unitary Party (PUN) will not run in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019, but will support the electoral bloc ACUM. The decision was taken in a meeting of the party’s Political Council held on December 16. This involved the president of honor of the PUN Traian Băsescu, IPN reports.

The PUN president Anatol Șalaru told a news conference that the decision was made after realizing the fact that without a democratic framework in the country, the rapprochement with Romania is also in danger. The decision not to take part in the elections does not mean abandonment of the unionist ideals. It is a decision dictated by the danger of a fifth column represented by Igor Dodon and the PSRM taking over, by the resolutions of European institutions that point to the powerful erosion of the rule of law and democracy and the danger of perpetuation of the Plahotniuc-Dodon hybrid regime.

“If the PSRM comes to power, the Republic of Moldova will be federalized, unionism will be banned, as will dual nationality for one million citizens who now earn their living in the EU be,” stated Anatol Șalaru.

According to the politician, the PUN will not field candidates in single-member constituencies, will not negotiate places on lists and will support the bloc ACUM by political statements and by other assistance, except financial one.

The PUN called on all the unionists to massively vote in elections for the bloc ACUM as Moldova will stop existing as a state without mobilization.
