The National Unity Party (PUN) will support the candidate for Chisinau mayoralty of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase in the runoffs, the party’s leader Anatol Salaru announced in a news conference, noting the Chisinau City Hall should not be left in the hands of the Socialists, IPN reports.

Anatol Salaru thanked the electors for the vote given to the PUN candidate Constantin Codreanu. “This was the first exam taken by the PUN. We weren’t fully ready for these elections, but we coped honorably. It was a difficult campaign, with many attacks, but, as it was seen, we didn’t attack anyone and will not resort to attacks in the future either. Now the priority is to prevent the Socialists from taking control of the City Hall. Therefore, the National Unity Party will unconditionally support Andrei Nastase as mayor of Chisinau,” he stated.

Anatol Salaru called on the sympathizers and members of the PUN and also on the unionists to take part in the runoff vote and to support Andrei Nastase. He also called upon his former colleagues from the Liberal Party to mobilize their voters and throw support to Nastase.

“We will take part in this campaign, together with the team. We will do whatever is requested of us. The Chisinau City Hall should not be seized by the Party of Socialists,” stated Salaru. He added that if the team is asked to become involved, it will do so, but not independently.

With 100% of the votes counted, the preliminary data show that the candidate of the Party of Socialists Ion Ceban won 40.97% of the poll, while Andrei Nastase, of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”– 32.12%. The two candidates will compete for the mayoralty of Chisinau in a runoff vote in two weeks.
