The Humanist Party of Moldova (PUM) asks the present Government to observe the Constitution of Moldova that guarantees the right to decent living conditions for the country's citizens, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on Wednesday, the party's president Ion Mereuta said that the economic crisis affected the country's economy and population and the Government should increase the salaries, pensions, allowances and student awards in line with the rate of inflation.
Mereuta stressed that the PUM proposes a series of measures that could help solve many of the problems faced by the society nowadays.
“Mihai Eminescu wrote that poverty is the major cause of many problems confronting the society,” said the leader of the PUM. “Eminescu was and continues to be right as poverty generates criminality and leads to degeneration,” Mereuta said.
Doctor of Economy Elena Rogojina, a member of the PUM, said the commitments that Moldova made to the International Monetary Fund make the social problems more acute. “When signing the agreement with the IMF, the government had to agree to reducing the salaries of budget-paid employees and increasing the tariffs. Consequently, the state has to cover a part of the costs incurred by the people,” Rogojina said.
The PUM suggests fixing a minimum untaxed sum for private individuals of 1,500 lei.
