Public transport in Chisinau will have to stop in omnibus stations only near the kerb and not elsewhere, as it often happens at present. This is a request made by the Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chritoaca to local transport authorities. Although he pleaded for optimising and making more fluid the traffic in the municipality, Chirtoaca prohibited using repressive methods in this respect. “Let us not take no one’s head off”, the mayor asked, pleading for discipline. The mayor requested the Department for Communication and Transport to propose a series of actions to improve the traffic, especially in the centre of Chisinau. Depending on the available Road Police personnel, the City Hall will involve the police bodies in communicating with the drivers so that they do not park on the central streets or near the bus stops. In addition, Chirtoaca requested the Urban Bus Company and the Electric Transport Management to provide clean conveyance means, to follow the circulation schedule, and the drivers to have a positive attitude toward the passengers. At present, there are about 100 buses and 240 trolleybuses running in Chisinau. According to interim head of the Department for Transport and Communication Alexei Varlan, at present there are about 1250 minivans working in Chisinau compared wit 2000 units before the enactment of the law which remove the re-equipped minivans from Chisinau. At the same time, Varlan mentioned that the transport sector in Chisinau has significant debts. MDL 10 mln are due for roadworks, MDL 4.7 mln – for the construction of Petricani Street, MDL 5.4 mln for designing the trolleybus line on Independentei Street, MDL 10.4 mln – for public illumination, MDL 4 mln - for cleaning the streets and MDL 4 – for paving the sidewalks.
