The Public Transport and Communications Division of Chisinau next year will be called the General Urban Mobility Division and the quality of its services will grow. It will be able to initiate more development projects and to increase the personnel units, the Division’s head Vitalie Mihalache stated for IPN.
According to him, the reorganization decision was generated by the increase in the workload and the appearance of more areas of responsibility. New units responsible for parking and traffic monitoring were created as part of the General Division. The units responsible for municipal works and finances were optimized.
“This reorganization has been necessary as both the duties and the investments made now by the municipality increased considerably and the capacity for supervising and coordinating these works needs to be extended by hiring new staff,” explained Vitalie Mihalache, saying emphasis will be placed on fluent vehicle and pedestrian traffic and on infrastructure.
There will be created a subdivision of ascertaining agents who will be authorized to impose penalties. All the actions are aimed at monitoring the provided services and executed works so that these are of a higher quality and are enduring and public funds could be saved this way. “We are also making effort to develop alternative transport and other important areas,” stated Vitalie Mihalache.
Together with the reorganization of the Division, grants will be attracted to develop other projects, such as MOVE IT like Lublin, for example. Within this project, the Division had discussions with counterparts from the Czech Republic, Poland and exchanged experience that will contribute to implementing good practices in the municipality of Chisinau.
Vitalie Mihalache noted that in 2023 the Division has the same priorities as in 2022: to repair and maintain the roads, to put up parking lots, to build infrastructure for cyclists, to renew the buses and minibuses.
The draft decision on the reorganization of the General Public Transport and Communications Division of Chisinau into the General Urban Mobility Division was adopted by the Chisinau Municipal Council in October. All the changes were instituted and only the personnel units are yet to be coordinated with the State Chancellery.
