The public libraries from all over the country will become involved in informing the population about the methods of preventing traumas and poisoning in children and in distributing informative materials. Thus, the adults and children will be presented and given films and brochures about the risk of home and traffic accidents involving children within public lectures inside libraries. The activities will be based on a local partnership with public health centers. Family doctors and police officers will be invited to them to speak about the risks to which the children are exposed in the house and on the street, IPN reports.
According to representatives of Novateca project, the informative materials will be distributed by different ways. On March 30, the National Library will host the “Bibliological Year” event that will bring together all the managers of district libraries. These will receive the first set of materials from the REPEMOL project. “Furthermore, a security weekend will be staged in April, when the district libraries will organize events that will involve representatives of health centers, firefighters and police officers. Within these, the general public will be presented information about the prevention of road and home accidents involving children,” said the partnerships specialist of Novateca Margarita Ursu.
The regional coordinators of Novateca project will also distribute relevant information to local libraries. “When we transmit these materials to them, we will advise them to stage different events and to involve family doctors in them. Each library will choose the target group with which to work so that their messages reach those for which these are intended,” stated Margarita Ursu.
REPEMOL manager Silvia Morgoci considers the public librarians are an important partner at the local level in informing the population. “The public lectures on child security are an interesting subject for a number of groups of people, such as parents with children younger than 5, pregnant women, grandmothers, students. We can bring about nice changes in the community only by a local multidisciplinary partnership,” she said.
Natalia Silitrari, the representative of the National Public Health Center, said the district public health specialists will team up with public librarians to inform the people and this is a novelty for the system. “We can achieve results in health promotion by combining forces,” she stated.

The Regionalization of Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Services in the Republic of Moldova Project (REPEMOL), in cooperation with the authorities, warn the parents about the measures to prevent home accidents involving children younger than five within the campaign “A danger-free home for your child” and about how to prevent road accidents within the campaign “Do you know how to avoid street dangers?”. The project Novateca is an initiative by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation whose goal is to transform over 1,000 public libraries in Moldova into vibrant and energetic community centers where the people benefit from free access to computers and modern library services. This March, each second national library will be modernized by being outfitted with computers and by training the librarian.
