The Chisinau City Hall intends to take out a loan of about €50 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for renovating and thermally insulating the public buildings that are municipal property. The works are projected to start this year, IPN reports.

Mayor General of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca said that all the municipal kindergartens, schools, hospitals and other public institutions will be fully rehabilitated in the next two-three years. Their roofs, windows and internal piping systems will be replaced and they will be thermally insulated.

“The works will be executed in accordance with the European standards. We must save electricity and heat. The EIB is ready to continuously provide financing, until all the municipal buildings in Chisinau are completely renovated. Afterward, we will shift to the private residential buildings. But the dwellers will have to contribute 5% to 30% of the costs and this is fair as the buildings are privately owned,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.

Currently, the municipality is holding discussions on the lending conditions with representatives of the EIB.
