Public health emergency declared in Moldova until June 30

A public health emergency was declared in Moldova for the period between May 16 and June 30, by a decision taken by the Commission for Exceptional Situations in its last meeting on May 15. The National Extraordinary Commission for Public Health took over from the Commission for Exceptional Situations and will be able to review the decision depending on the epidemiological situation, IPN reports.

Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu said a part of the earlier adopted measures were maintained, including the obligation for the central and local public authorities, private individuals and legal entities to keep the social distance of at least 1 meter and the condition to examine the state of health of employees in commercial units.

The wearing of masks in public transport, in commercial and closed public areas and in other places became mandatory nationwide. The mask should cover both the mouth and nose. It is also mandatory to avoid crowdedness.

The persons older than 63 will further not be allowed to leave home, if only in emergencies. This obligation also applies to persons with health issues as they are in the risk group. Access to playgrounds and recreational areas is banned.

The markets in the municipalities of Chisinau and Bălți remain closed. The restrictions refer also to the hospitality industry. The education institutions, regardless of the level, will not work until June 30. Depending on the developments, the authorities will also take other decisions.

The hairdressing services will be available as of May 16, but one could have only the hair cut. All the precautionary measures should be respected both by specialists and by clients.

Prime Minister Ion Chicu said the foreigners’ access to Moldova is barred, as in all the other European states. All the types of international transport remain suspended. Groups larger than three persons when walking cannot be formed. At most 50 persons can take part in a meeting. The WHO recommended diminishing the figure and such a recommendation is to be considered.

The infections with the novel coronavirus in Moldova now total 5,745. Of those infected, 2,280 got cured. The death toll from COVID-19 stands at 202.
