The public association “I’m a Resident of Balti” calls upon the people living in Balti city to attentively monitor the actions of the local administration and to act together so as not to allow Russian teaching schools or classes to be closed and the municipal property to be illegally sold. The association’s leader Victor Mergeshaev gave as an example a municipal building that was put up for sale by the local authorities without holding public consultations with the residents of the city.

“The mayor put up for sale the building of the maternity hospital, but this will seriously affect the demographic situation in Balti city. When a maternity hospital is based not in a separate building but in several offices (in another medical institution), how can we speak about the formation of families? The markets in Balti do not make profit. This also points to acts of corruption,” Victor Mergeshaev stated in a news conference held at IPN News Agency.

He noted that the Russian teaching educational institutions are gradually closed in the country. A number of universities were closed last year. In Balti city, where most of the inhabitants speak Russian, the Russian Language Teacher specialty is the only Russian language department of “Alecu Russo” University.

Another leader of the public association “I’m a Resident of Balti” Maxim Moroșan said that more municipal assets have been sold during several years than during the previous ten years. He encouraged the political parties and public associations, the persons who care about the fate of Balti to combine forces and fight the illegalities witnessed in the city.
