The third edition of the Pubic Space Days launched by the Oberliht Association in partnership with the Center “Apriori” will take place in Chisinau, Bender and Tiraspol during May 22-27. According to the organizers, the theme this year is the access to culture and culture as a common good, with special emphasis on the situation in quarters and residential areas in the city and encouragement of broader and open use of the public space, including by artists, so as to sensitize society to the needs and problems faced by communities through art.
The organizers said the project is designed to support the artistic experiments aimed at consolidating local communities, encouraging interaction between different groups in quarters and stimulating social cohesion. The project will also contribute to a series of exchanges between the inhabitants from both banks of the Nistru, facilitating the contact between artists, cultural managers, researchers, journalist and other culture sector employees from Chisinau, Bender, Tiraspol and other cities, including from abroad.
In a news conference at IPN, Oberliht head Vladimir Us said the program of the Pubic Space Days 2018 includes an international conference on culture as a common good on May 22 and 23. The event will bring together people from culture and research, scientists and national and international activists. The program also includes creative workshops for young artists and children, artistic performances in the public space, a workshop with the participation of Czech artists Vladimir Turner and Martina Machovicova in Chisinau and Tiraspol, a series of exhibitions of contemporary art, concerts, tours and film screenings.
Andrei Hamitsevich, project coordinator of the Tiraspol Legal Information Center “Apriori”, said the young people from the Transnistrian region will be able to take part in these activities either in Chisinau or in Bender or Tiraspol. A workshop with the involvement of foreign experts will be held in Tiraspol, while researcher Maxim Poleacov will direct a tour of Solnechnyi quarter of Bender and will present the results of a research on the access to culture in residential areas in the town.
Fabien Schaeffer, program officer at the EU Delegation to Moldova, said such activities help strengthen confidence between the two sides of the Nistru. The given activities will contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the three cities - Chisinau, Bender and Tiraspol.
Orest Dabija, division head at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said Oberliht is a road opener as regards the valorization of the public spaces The Public Space Days that reached the third edition already are an important cultural event.
