The Party of Socialists (PSRM) calls on the Government to take measures now that the largest bakery of the country announced its intension to increase prices. “The rise in bread prices follows the upsurge in the prices of energy resources, medicines, basic food products and reminds of the hyperinflation of the 1990s. In the present day, as they do not have money to buy even bread at the set price, the people are condemned to hunger,” the party noted in a press release that is quoted by IPN.

The PSRM said that back last autumn it warned the authorities that the state should watch over food security. We asked to stage parliamentary hearings on the issue so as to identify an acceptable solution, but the ruling majority considered the problem of bread prices amid a rising inflation is not significant and is not important for taking urgent measures.

The party noted that by chaotic and unwise actions, the authorities cause the inflation to go up further. The rise in bread prices shows the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity condemns a considerable part of the population to famine.

The PSRM announced it will submit legislative proposals aimed at stopping the upsurge in the prices of the main food products.

The largest bakery of Moldova SA “Franzeluța” on February 1 announced it intends to raise the prices of all the types of bread it makes, except for the social bread. The company also decided to increase the production of social bread by 54%, but without modifying the final price for consumers.
