This is a “childish reaction”, stated Socialist MP Vasile Bolea, chair of Parliament’s Legal Commission, in response to the PAS group’s demand that Parliament should urgently assemble to adopt a set of Electoral Code amendments in line with the Venice Commission recommendations.
“Three weeks ago, PAS cried out loudly that this bill must not be adopted in final reading because it was a plot to rig the elections. Today they are saying the bill must be urgently adopted, or else the elections will be rigged. Such a childish reaction means that PAS hasn’t even read the bill and hasn’t grasped its meaning. Now that the (Venice Commission) says the bill is good, we see PAS flip-flop,” declared Vasile Bolea.
As for PAS MP Sergiu Litvinenco’s allegation of possible electoral fraud on November 1, Vasile Bolea said it’s PAS that would in fact have means to influence the outcome. “Look at who is heading the Central Electoral Commission. Dorin Chmil, the CEC president, was proposed to the post by PAS.”
Bolea also stated that there is not enough time to adopt the bill in second reading, as there are only a few months left until the elections.
Sergiu Litvinenco stated earlier on Friday that the bill, which was submitted by PSRM, had to be urgently adopted in final reading, but not before being brought in line with the recent opinion formulated by the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR.
