The Party of Socialists launched a campaign entitled “National interest – a priority for PSRM”. According to the party’s leaders, it is time for Moldova to stop pursuing a foreign agenda and to start to abide by the national interest, IPN reports.

PSRM chairman Igor Dodon told a press conference that during the years of independence, different governments promoted a foreign agenda. “The time has come to make decisions on our own about the future of the country. The time has come to prioritize our national interest,” said Igor Dodon. The Socialist leader believes that the majority of citizens agree with this.

PSRM Executive Committee member Vlad Batrîncea said that the campaign to promote the national interest is based on the independence, sovereignty and neutrality of the Republic of Moldova. “The legal foundation of this state, issues related to statehood, sovereignty and independence will be the main topic of this campaign. Together with society and all those interested, we will develop a series of proposals and actions aimed at strengthening and developing the statehood and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova,” noted Batrîncea.

He said that a single approach will be proposed during the campaign, namely counteracting any initiative that undermines Moldova’s statehood and sovereignty as Moldova should not be an instrument in political games and no force from outside the country can impose on Moldova its own view on the country’s future.

Olga Cebotari, a member of the PSRM Executive Committee, believes that the national interest should prevail in the foreign policy of the state and this will prevent the division of society. The EU accession negotiations must be for the benefit of the national interest of the country, but not for the sake of geopolitical circumstances or electoral interest.

The campaign will include meetings with citizens, editing and distribution of the newspaper “Socialists” and also videos promoting the campaign.
