The Party of Socialists (PSRM) has initiated discussions with the parliamentary groups over the subsequent actions for dissolving Parliament and for working out a roadmap for inducing snap parliamentary elections. The Socialists demand that the President should nominate a candidate for Prime Minister before the start of the parliamentary session set for February 1 or they will mount large-scale protests, the leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon announced after the meeting of the party’s political executive, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, Igor Dodon accused Maia Sandu of inaction and of violating the Constitution as a Constitutional Court judgment provides that the President is obliged to propose a candidate for premiership after consultations with the parliamentary groups.
The politician noted that in the morning of January 19, his colleagues will go to the CC to clarify two issues – the maximum period during which the President is obliged to nominate a candidate for Premier after the Cabinet resigns, and what penalties the President faces for not proposing a candidate.
Igor Dodon noted that the PSRM is for holding snap parliamentary elections this year. The Constitution clearly stipulates two solutions. The Socialist MPs do not consider the non-adoption of laws during three months and will come together in February to make laws. “Therefore, the only solution for dissolving Parliament is to reject the candidate proposed for Prime Minister for two times,” he stated.
According to him, if the President and his accomplices continue to violate the constitutional provisions, the PSRM will take all the possible constitutional actions against the President. “We will take all the legal actions, including the mounting of protests, against the usurpers of the state power in the Republic of Moldova. If the President continues with such things, this is usurpation of the power,” said Igor Dodon.
