The Party of Socialists (PSRM) calls on the MPs of all the parliamentary groups to condemn the protests staged by the Nistru war veterans and requests the Prosecutor General’s Office and the law enforcement agencies to react to any illegality committed by the veterans who, according to the party, generate disorder, chaos and civil conflicts in the country. According to the Socialists, the statements made in veterans’ protests of July 16 and 19 incite ethnic hatred and the use of violence, call for the liquidation of the statehood of the Republic of Moldova and run counter to a series of articles of the Constitution and the Penal Code of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

“The Party of Socialists has constantly supported the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, we remind that namely such extremist statements that were disseminated at the protests mounted by the People’s Front at the end of the 1980s and the start of the 1990s and later by the representatives of the Moldovan authorities created the basis of the Transnistrian conflict. Each call to unite with Romania, to use physical violence, each insult to the national speakers delay the Transnistrian settlement process for an indefinite period of time and create a basis for new conflicts in our country,” the party says in a press release.

The Socialists consider each veteran of the armed forces, each participant in the hostilities needs the assistance of the state, but no one should break the law and incite interethnic struggles and hatred between people, make calls for violence and threaten with physical violence.

In the protests organized by the initiative group “Veterans’ Force” on July 16 and 19, the participants demanded that the current government should leave because it does nothing for the citizens. They said President Igor Dodon should also leave as he wants to win a new term in office at any cost. The veterans said that in 1992 they fought for the integrity and sovereignty of this state and some of them paid with their own life and health. Now the veterans are mistreated by the special forces of the current government.
