The leader of the group of Socialists in Parliament, the chairman of the Party of Socialists PSRM Igor Dodon filed a challenge to the Constitutional Court, asking declaring unconstitutional provisions of six articles of the Law on Guaranteeing of Equality, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The challenge refers especially to two key elements – the exclusion of the phrases ‘sexual orientation’ and ‘sexual minorities’ from Article 1 and 7, and the work of the new council for combating discrimination. We believe that this council has too many powers and cannot be the object of this law,” Igor Dodon told the press.
He said that the challenge also refers to Article 1 (The law’s aim and the area where it is applied), Article 7 (Banning of labor discrimination), Article 8 (Banning of discrimination in the access to goods and services available to the public), Article 9 (Banning of discrimination in education), Article 15 (Examination of the complaint), and Article 19 (The task of probation).
“If the challenge is not accepted, we will insist in Parliament that these changes to the Law on Guaranteeing of Equality be included in the agenda and will convince the MPs to vote,” added Igor Dodon.
The Law on Guaranteeing of Equality was passed by Parliament in two readings on May 25.
