The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) repeatedly called upon the MPs to have a dialogue on the parliamentary platform so as to decide the steps that need to be taken to induce snap legislative elections. The Socialists condemn the December 6 protest, saying such protests are aimed only at destabilizing the political situation, IPN reports.
“The politicians who daily criticized the government for the large and growing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 broke the rule that banned holding rallies with more than 50 persons. Consequently, the amplification of the pandemic crisis will be the blame of the organizers of the demonstration. At the same time, the PSRM ascertains a lack of coherence in the demands formulated in the protest that was mounted in the center of the capital city. Some sought the union with Romania, others called on the people to take an active part in the parliamentary elections of the neighboring state, while the rest asked for more assistance for famers, to step up the fight against corruption or that the Cabinet should resign so that parliamentary elections could be called. The slogans like “Down with the mafia” that were chanted during the last ten years seemed strange as the protesters included those who governed the Republic of Moldova during the last ten years, when the state was captured, the billion and the airport were stolen and a multitude of other illegalities were committed,” the PSRM says in a press release.
The Socialists reiterated that they pleaded for the dissolution of the current Parliament and for the organization of snap elections for many times and the Socialist MPs proposed informal discussions with another four parliamentary parties so as to work out an action plan for dissolving Parliament and calling snap elections. “The protesters’ demand to organize snap parliamentary elections confirms the Socialists’ and President Igor Dodon’s position that was made public earlier,” runs the press release.
The PSRM condemns protesters’ calls to liquidate the state Republic of Moldova and the blackmail to which particular politicians resort.
