The Party of Socialists (PSRM) said it will initiate a number of ‘judicial actions aimed at breaking the impasse caused by the President. The goal announced by the party is to ensure the political processes are within the law and to make the presidential administration to obey the Constitutional Court’s judgment. Among the actions, the PSRM notes the initiation of procedures stipulated by the Constitution, filing of requisitions to the Constitutional Court, the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission, IPN reports.
“The PSRM remains committed to supporting a Government led by Mariana Durleșteanu, the candidate proposed by the political majority that was formed in Parliament on February 11, and will initiate new actions the coming days so as to ensure the designation of the candidate for Prime Minister. The PSRM is ready to consider other solutions proposed by the other parliamentary groups and to take part in a constructive dialogue with the President,” says a statement issued by the PSRM after the meeting of the party’s political executive.
The PSRM reiterated it believes that this Parliament should be dissolved and snap parliamentary elections should be held. But this will be possible only after the epidemiological situation is stabilized and the population is supplied with COVID-19 vaccines so as to avoid new waves of mass infection of the population as a result of electoral meetings and visiting of polling stations. “Also, for snap elections to be triggered, the constitutional procedures should be obeyed. The anti-constitutional actions of President Maia Sandu compromised the political process that would have led to snap elections,” runs the statement.
The party notes the Socialist MPs will intensify communication with the parliamentary groups the coming days so as to find an efficient political solution that would ensure the proper management of the pandemic crisis.
