The Party of Socialists (PSRM) declared its support for Igor Dodon, who runs independently in the November 1 presidential elections. “Igor Dodon is a professional and competent economist who is fully aware of the needs and necessities of the national economy,” the party stated in a press release that is quoted by IPN.
The PSRM noted it supports all the proposals formulated by Igor Dodon in his electoral program, such as the social protection of the population, development and modernization of the health system, demographic policy, strengthening and improvement of the education system, rehabilitation of rural areas, etc.
“The Party of Socialists has always pleaded for Moldovan statehood, identity, neutrality and peaceful reunification of the country. We consider it is extremely important to do a new constitutional reform in the justice sector and to ban “political tourism”. To strengthen civil and interethnic peace, we believe a new law on the functioning of languages should be adopted, where the Moldovan language will keep the status of single official language on the country’s territory, while the Russian language will be classed as the official language of interethnic communication,” runs the statement.
The party supports the direction towards a balanced foreign policy, towards the development of the relations with the Russian Federation and the European Union and also with Romania and Ukraine, and pleads for keeping and strengthening the neutral status of the Republic of Moldova.
“The Party of Socialists is convinced that only Igor Dodon can implement this program and complete the initiated reforms. His experience, character and position in life are now necessary given the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the internal and external threats to the statehood of our country.”
Eight candidates will be contending for office of President on November 1: Renato Usatyi (Our Party), Andrei Năstase (PPPDA), Tudor Deliu (PLDM), Igor Dodon (independent), Violeta Ivanov (Shor Party), Maia Sandu (PAS), Octavian Țîcu (PUN) and Dorin Chirtoacă (UNION Electoral Bloc).
