The councilor of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) on the Chisinau Municipal Council Stanislav Vartanean said that if the seat of the new mayor of Chisinau is not validated by court, this will be a great present for Andrei Nastase. The deputy chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Alexandru Slusari does not rule out the possibility that the seat will not be validated, IPN reports.

Alexandru Slusari said the court could refuse to validate the seat of mayor of Andrei Nastase even if there are no reasons for doing so. “During the last ten days, we discovered so many things on the real estate market. The building companies could be in a panic and, given the so close tie with Vladimir Plahotniuc, pressure is probably exerted,” he stated, noting the later Andrei Nastase takes up his duties, the larger will be the number of issued demolition and construction documents. According to him, large-scale protests will be mounted if the seat of the new mayor is not validated.

Alexandru Slusari also said the members of the Chisinau Municipal Council could go on vacation before the deputy mayors are named and Andrei Nastase would thus have to work with the old team.

For his part, Stanislav Vartanean said that if the term in office of the new mayor is not validated by court, this will be a great present for Andrei Nastase. “If the representatives of the power want Andrei Nastase to strip them of any rating, they will delay the validation of the seat and will offer him the possibility of taking to the streets and of entering thus the election campaign. Consequently, the Democratic Party will gain at most 5% of the vote in the parliamentary election of this yearend,” stated the Socialist councilor.

The Centru branch of the Court of Chisinau on June 15 put off the validation of the seat of the elected mayor of Chisinau municipality Andrei Nastase. The judge argued not all the electoral materials concerning the first round of the new mayoral elections have been brought. Also, the court requested the Chisinau District Electoral Council to state its opinion and say if the election outcome can be validated when the Supreme Court of Justice hasn’t yet pronounced on a challenge submitted by the Party of Socialists.

In the mayoral runoffs in Chisinau on June 3, 2018, the candidate of the PPPDA Andrei Nastase won against his rival of the PSRM Ion Ceban.
