The Ministry of Education is violating the Moldovan Constitution by introducing the course “The History of Romanians” and Minister Mihail Sleahtitchi will answer for this in court. The statement was made during a press conference by Tatiana Nita, member of the National Council of the Social-Democratic Party, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The Ministry of Education forgot about the Regulation on evaluation and selection of textbooks for primary and secondary education, which stipulates the Ministry must organize contests for the development, publishing and purchasing of books. The decision regarding the books of “History of Romanians” was an arbitrary one”, declared Tatiana Nita.
According to her, the actions of the Ministry of Education infringe the Law on Education. PSD requested information about the reediting of books, but received no answer. Tatiana Nita declared that the history of Romanians began in 1859, while the history of Moldova started in 1358, under the rule of Bogdan I, and that pupils shouldn’t be lied to.
“Considering that neither Mister Sleahtitchi, nor interim President Marian Lupu took a stance regarding this issue, we will sue them at the Court of Appeals, attaching all the documents that prove the illegal actions of the Ministry of Education, which thinks it can live with someone else’s history”, said Tatiana Nita.
The claim will be lodged with the court on Thursday, August 1.
Previously, the Minister of Education Mihail Sleahtitchi accused PSD of spreading false rumors. From September 1, children will study “History” and not “History of Romanians”, as PSD claims.
