PSD to compete with PCRM for mayoralty of Chisinau

Sergiu Coropceanu, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) for mayor of Chisinau, told a news conference that his main opponent in the June 5 elections is the Communist lawmaker Igor Dodon, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Igor Dodon does nothing but exploit the Communist voters in order to make a political career. He needs this election campaign only for promoting the PCRM's logo, misleading the supporters of the Communist Party and strengthening his position in this party,” said Sergiu Coropceanu.
As to the current mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, Sergiu Coropceanu said he had enough time to show his abilities to the residents of Chisinau municipality. “One should administer efficiently, not only drive trolleybuses,” he stated.
The PSD candidate promised he will make effort to reduce the prices and charges for the inhabitants of Chisinau and increase the allocations to the municipal budget. He said that he will make public his electoral platform after he is registered by the Chisinau district electoral council as a candidate.
For Mayor of Balti, the Social Democratic Party fielded Oleg Topolnitski, who is a member of the party's National Council.
Three of the four parliamentary parties have announced their candidates for the mayoralty of Chisinau. The Communist Party fielded Igor Dodon, the Democratic Party - Valentina Buliga, while the Liberal Democratic Party - Victor Bodiu. Though the Liberal Party has not made public the name of its candidate, Dorin Chirtoaca repeatedly said that he will run for a new tenure as mayor.
Among the extraparliamentary parties, the Christian Democratic People's Party put forward Radu Busila for mayor of Chisinau, while the Partly of Socialists of Moldova “Patria-Rodina” - Valentin Krylov.
The registration of candidates starts next week.
