The Social Democratic Party (PSD) considers the members of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) misinform the Moldovan people about Moldova's prospects of joining the European Union and the signing of the future Association Agreement, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Knowing the wishes of the population and aiming to build their election campaigns on these aspirations, the present governors in their speeches started to use the phrase 'association agreement' to mean all the agreements, misleading thus the people and making them believe that Moldova will become a EU member in only 1-2 years,” PSD secretary general Sergiu Corobceanu told a news conference on September 15. He said the AEI interprets the agreements signed with the EU as it likes. According to the PSD, Moldova cannot soon become a EU member as the list of EU neighbors included in the Good Neighborhood Program of 2004 was ratified additionally in 2009. Moldova was included in the Program, not yet in the list of accession candidates. The PSD secretary said Moldova could join the EU in 10-15 years. This fact was confirmed by the President of the Council of the European Union Yves Leterm in a meeting with the leader of the PSD Victor Selin. Also, Moldova may sign an Association Agreement with the EU only after 2013, when the Eastern Partnership program will be completed.
