Two extra parliamentary parties – the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Socialist People’s Party of Moldova (PPSM) – Friday signed a statement on the creation of the Union of Left-Wing Forces, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We remain independent political parties, but will have joint programs,” the chairman of the PSD Victor Selin said after the signing of the statement. “We are not in an election campaign to have a chairman or other posts in the newly founded union. When we are in the election period, we will designate a leader and set the divisions of the political force. Until then, we will strengthen our forces and agree working programs,” he stated. The leader of the PPSM Victor Stepaniuc said the Union of Left-Wing Forces aims to remain in opposition to the Alliance for European Integration and the Communist Party. “The PCRM had a monopolist behavior and committed many mistakes. As to Dodon (the chairman of the Party of Socialists, e.n.), I can say that he practically saved the AEI when he voted for the presidential candidate. But the Socialists pledged to support particular policies of the PCRM and we will thus criticize certain acts of theirs,” stated Victor Stepaniuc. The Union of Left-Wing Forces will act based on ten principles that were approved by the leadership of the two parties. It will promote Moldova’s entry into the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union, the election of the President by direct vote and the resolution of the Transnistrian dispute by creating a federation.
