The provincial mentality and thinking influenced by poverty delays the development of Chisinau, considers Mihail Caretchi, architect at the municipal company Chisinauproiect. He says that the historical development process of the city should be permanently renewed. “If we change people’s way of thinking, the problems faced by the city will be easier solved,” Caretchi told the journal “Imobiliare de Lux” (“Luxury Realty”), Info-Prim Neo reports. The architect thinks that the problems related to the development of the city cannot be solved because the people erroneously make all kinds of negative suppositions. When we speak about parking lots, a hypothesis is immediately formulated that the companies that will carry out the works could pocket the money. Such a way of thinking influences negatively the process, Caretchi said. Speaking about the same subject – problems and prospects of Chisinau – municipal councilor Oleg Cernei said that he would ban the construction of multistoried buildings in the historical center of Chisinau. “I think that they spoil the city’s image. Sometimes, you go along the old streets where there are houses with one storey and you suddenly see a high-tech block that looks bad in the background of these houses,” Cernei said. Chisinau needs multistoried parking garages, but not only in downtown, the councilor said. The number of cars in the city has increased, exceeding significantly the indices used in the old general urbanity plan. As there are not enough parking lots, the vehicles are parked on the roadway and this hinders the traffic, Cernei said. Moldova’s first president Mircea Snegur said that he would pay more attention to the old part of the city, where there are many valuable architectural monuments, like the Hertsa House. “It is a wonderful palace that must be passed by inheritance to the next generation,” the former president said. “I saw the façade was restored, but this architectural monument needs deeper revamp. I would urge the authorities not to economize on the reconstruction of the buildings located in the historical center.”
