Providers in Gagauzia fined for retransmitting Russian feature programs

For the first time, the Audiovisual Council imposed by a fine of 50,000 lei on two providers in ATU Gagauzia for the non-protection of the national audiovisual space. The two providers, “Oguzsatlink” SRL and “Ilk Halk Televizionu” SRL, retransmitted news and feature programs of Russian and Belarusians TV channels by violating provisions of the Code of Audiovisual Media Services, IPN reports.

Within 24 hours, the providers must stop broadcasting programs that violate the country’s information security.

They were also fined for working without a retransmission permit or broadcast license. “Oguzsatlink” illegally retransmits 58 TV media services, while “Ilk Halk Televizionu”– 37 such services. The two providers were fined by 19,000 lei for working in the absence of permissive documents and are to legalize their work within 15 workdays.

Also, “Ilk Halk Televizionu”, which is managed by Stepan Piron, was fined 19,000 lei for broadcasting the TV channel “First National” without having a broadcast license.

Another provider, “Steel Trading Group” SRL, was fined 29,000 lei for broadcasting without a retransmission permit in Glodeni. The Audiovisual Council offered it 15 workdays to legalize its work.

The fines imposed by the Council in Thursday’s meeting totaled 186,000 lei.
