Dozens of Chisinau inhabitants supported by members of the Communist Party Thursday picketed the City Hall, demanding that Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca be dismissed. The protesters blocked the entrance to the building, expressing their dissatisfaction with the rise in the maintenance costs following the increase in charges, Info-Prim Neo reports. The picketers said they are against the decision to add 50 lei to the bills for November in order to compensate for the loss of water sustained by SA Apa-Canal Chisinau. They stated they cannot cover all the costs since the gas and heat tariffs were increased. The people chanted “Down with Chirtoaca!” “Down with the Liberal Tariffs”, “Down with the Liberal Meters!”, “Everyone to Work!”. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca wanted to go out, but was booed and returned to the City Hall. The protesters demanded that the councilors elected on June 5 should unlock the work of the Council, come together for meetings and start solving the problems faced by the residents of Chisinau municipality. “I chaired the Council. I know that by adopting decisions, the Council contributes to larger budget revenues. If it hadn’t worked for five months, at least 50 million lei failed to be collected into the municipal budget,” said Communist MP Eduard Musuc, who chanted slogans together with the protesters. The lawmaker said that if the Chisinau Council does not start work, the protests will continue and more people will take to the streets. There can be staged event a large-scale social march. Eduard Musuc proposed a resolution aimed at unblocking the work of the Council and channeling the efforts towards solving the social-economic problems. The protesters backed the resolution, which was to be submitted to the Liberal councilors and the mayor general. The protest involved representatives of a number of movements, including sympathizers of the Communist Party.
