The members of the Council of the Great National Assembly call on President Nicolae Timofti to accept the Premier’s requisition and to dismiss the director of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru. In a news conference held in the Great National Assembly Square on October 17, members of the Council said the authorities ignore the demands of thousands of protesters. The deadline by which the authorities were to satisfy protesters’ demands expired today and the Council members will thus have to work out a new plan of action for intensifying and extending the protests, IPN reports.

The Council of the Great National Assembly asks the head of state to dismiss the three newly appointed vice directors of the Security and Intelligence Service for the reason that these were selected according to mafia criteria so as to serve the interests of the PLDM, PDM and PL.

The Council’s head Andrei Nastase said that the 24 hours provided to the law enforcement bodies for making public information about the criminal cases started against a number of politicians and high-ranking officials also expired. No reaction on the part of the law enforcement institutions followed.

“The Council of the Great National Assembly, the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” and the representatives of the segments that joined the protest movement call on the whole society, especially the independent associative organizations, to make common cause with the protesters so as to step up the pressure on the government and to make the authorities to immediately start dealing with the people’s demands,” stated Nastase.

The members of the Council said that on October 18 they will travel to Hancesti and Orhei districts to have discussions with the people there.
