Protesters seek Chirtoac’s dismissal in front of City Hall

The youth organization of the Party of Socialists, the Youth Guard, demanded that Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca should resign. In a protest staged in front of the Chisinau City Hall on January 24, the participants complained about the poor state of the roads and the high maintenance costs, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vlad Batrincea, a member of the executive committee of the Party of Socialists, said that the young people urge the residents of Chisinau to be active and to support them in the referendum that they intend to organize. “We are in the process of constituting an initiative group for organizing a referendum by which to dismiss Chirtoaca. The referendum cannot be organized by only one political party. It is staged by an initiative group that should involve all the parties and all the residents of Chisinau,” said Vlad Batrincea. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the City Hall’s PR Division Vadim Brinzaniuc said that it wasn’t the first protest mounted by representatives of the Party of Socialists and it follows a party’s meeting where they decided to start the election campaign. “What they said is not new. We don’t understand why they don’t do it by the means they have and by approaches to the Municipal Council, which includes representatives of this party,” he stated. The Party of Socialists is represented in the Chisinau Municipal Council by Elena Danu and Elena Hrenova.
