The people protesting in the Great National Assembly Square, in a new large-scale protest on September 13, gave a blame vote to the ‘criminal oligarchic government” of the Republic of Moldova and repeatedly asked for early elections. The protest organizers – the members of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” - read a resolution saying that the Great National Assembly Council is empowered to make a public call to go on a general strike and stage other civil unrest events if protesters’ demands are not satisfied. These announced the creation of an alternative political movement and the compilation of a list of members of a popular confidence government, IPN reports.
“The Great National Assembly Council is requested to start building an alternative political movement and approving the nominal composition of a popular confidence government that would use the instruments typical of the political struggle to fulfill the wishes of the Moldovan people, which were expressed and approved in the Great National Assembly,” said the Council’s head Andrei Nastase.
According to him, the program of the new political movement and governmental team will be based on the demands stipulated in proclamation of September 6, while the goals will be to identify and punish the usurpers of the state power. “The new political movement and governmental team, emanated by the Great National Assembly Square, will be created based on principles of integrity, professionalism and transparency,” stated Andrei Nastase.
Igor Botan, political analyst and a member of the Civic Platform, said before the crowd that the Platform sees Moldova as a modern state integrated into the European community, which is able to find an economic niche based on competition. “The Platform’s mission is to contribute to taking the state out of captivity and to removing the corrupt oligarchs,” he stated.
Platform member Inga Grigoriu noted that a real miracle was witnessed last week, when hundreds of thousands of Moldovans in the country and abroad made common cause and promoted one message – “we must get rid of captivity”.
About 100,000 people came together in the Great National Assembly Square on September 6, according to the organizers. Afterward, a part of the participants decided to protest nonstop in the Square and put up tents there. The protesters demand calling early elections. According to press reports, 10,000 to 20,000 people took part in the September 13 protest.
