A group of people, among whom Communist MPs, Wednesday picketed the head office of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), demanding that Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko be dismissed because he hid information about the hunting in Falesti, where a young man was wounded fatally, from the public. They also demanded discharging First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc because he controls the PGO, Info-Prim Neo reports. MP Mark Tkachuk said the prosecutors should have made such information public, but the case was kept secret as it involves state officials. “We can no longer live like that. A man died, but those who were to find the person to blame as soon as possible hid this crime. We know that the head of this institution does not have the courage and dignity to resign. If we don’t have the power to remove him, we are valueless,” he said, addressing the people. Former Moldovan Ambassador to the UN Alexei Tulbure said the people are tired of secrets and lies. “We are here today to tell everyone that we are not slaves and will not allow being offended. This institution (the Prosecutor General’s Office – e.n.), which is headed by a man who was involved in a crime two weeks ago, was appointed to this post in order to hide the crimes committed by his political masters. They violated the Constitution, defied the common sense and now started to kill people. We do not want to be the next victims of this regime. The prosecutor general and his master Plahotniuc must go away. Down with the prosecutor general!” chanted Alexei Tulbure. MP Alexand Petkov said that those who seek the prosecutor general’s dismissal care about the country’s future, unlike those who are in power. He stressed they will stage protests until the prosecutor is dismissed. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the PGO’s press service Maria Vieru said the institution will not make comments over this protest. After picketing the head office of the PGO, the protesters went to the building of the Ministry of the Interior. On January 6, the leader of the “Antimafie” Movement Sergiu Mocanu accused Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko of shooting a young man while hunting on December 23. In a press release issued two days later, Zubko denied the accusations.
