The persons that protest in Bender, many of whom are participants in the armed conflict on the Dniester, continue to demand that the penitentiary for prisoners suffering from tuberculosis is moved to a place outside the town. The protests started on May 28. The participants say they will continue protesting until they are heard. So far, they blocked car access to the prison. They could also take other steps, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Transnistria reports. Those that are protesting expressed their concern about the conditions of the sick prisoners and of the employees that guard the penitentiary. “The guard is armed. The town residents know nothing about the number of employees and the actions taken by them. The prison should not be located in Bender town,” said Vadim Josan, one of the protesters. The protests are peaceful. The protesters put up tens 50 meters from the penitentiary. They carry placards with inscriptions in Russian and English like: “Save Our Children from Tuberculosis”, “The Town is not a Ground for Experiments”, “Clean Air for the Townspeople”. The conflict around the Moldovan penitentiary in Bender is old. The prison has been repeatedly disconnected from the water and power supply in order to make Chisinau move it to another place.
