A group of young people staged a protest rally on Thursday, August 11, in the Great National Assembly Square, demanding the Ministry of Education to reintroduce the History of Romanians course in the school curriculum, Info-Prim Neo reports. About 15 protesters gathered outside the Government with placards and books of History of Romanians. Dan Nicu, one of the participants, said the youth organized the action through a social network. He added that beside the public manifestation they would send letters to the Ministry of Education demanding the reintroduction of History of Romanians in schools. Another protester, Lucian Ciubotaru, thinks that 45% of History of Romanians in the History course isn’t enough. He says Moldova is a Romanian country and the authorities should restore the History of Romanians as the basis of historic education. He announced similar manifestations over the next days. Minister of Education Mihail Sleahtitchi held a press briefing on Thursday and declared that the History of Romanians would be taught in schools as previously. “First of all, I want to make it clear that nothing changed in the teaching of history since last year. Phrases like “no more history of Romanians in schools” or the “history of Romanians won’t be taught anymore” are wrong. I tell you so that there was no more speculation: the history of Romanians will be taught in Moldovan schools”, he declared. According to Mihail Sleahtitchi, the history course will include 50% history of the world, 45% history of the Romanian space and 5% local or regional history.
