The members of an initiative group staged a protest before the Embassy of Romania on the occasion of the National Day of Romania, which is marked on December 1, to express their support for Moldova’s sovereignty. The protesters said they mobilized through social networking sites and formed the initiative group “I want to live in Moldova” that was joined by those who share the view that Moldova is a sovereign state that does not need to unite with Romania, as it is now demanded more often, IPN reports.
Protester Tatiana Gogu said the avalanche of unionistic slogans promoting the message that Moldova will be able to overcome the crisis only if it unites with Romania is unbearable already. “We cannot be sure that it will be so. Someone pursues particular goals by disseminating such messages. We want to live in our country,” she stated, adding that the protesters came together at the Embassy to show that there are Moldovans in Moldova who want to live in an independent and sovereign state.
Protester Aurel Bucureanu said there are now all kinds of parties that are funded with money from the Romanian budget in order to rob this state and persuade the people that Moldova cannot exist as an independent state. “Stop lying to us! Stop robbing us!” he chanted.
Among the protesters was the chairman of the Party “Moldova’s Patriots” Mihail Garbuz, who said that he is dissatisfied with particular developments in Moldova as these are aimed at liquidating the country. According to him, Moldova is the only state that studies the history of another state – of Romania. “It is a great shame when they say that we speak Romanian and the Constitution is thus violated as it stipulates that the Moldovan language is the official language,” he stated.
A series of events are held in Chisinau today to mark the National Day of Romania. These are staged by unionistic movements and parties.
