Anatol Dirun, a deputy of the so-called supreme soviet of the Transnistrian region, intends to stage a protest in Tiraspol on February 28, in reaction to the rise in the charges of public utilities and medical services, IPN reports. Anatol Dirun asked authorizing the protest that is to start at 12 noon.
Commenting on the calls to protest, the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk said that given the economic problems faced by the region, some of the people try to destabilize the situation, noting that these act by order. He also said that the special services of the region are monitoring all the calls to protest and the provoking comments made.
The Transnistrian region is confronted by economic problems that led price and tariff rises. The region’s administration announced that only 70% of the pensions and salaries to budget-funded employees will be paid for February. The other 30% will remain as debt until the situation is remedied.
