People are gathering for a protest at the checkpoint at the exit from Bender city towards Chisinau and on the bridge in Dubăsari town. From images disseminated on social networking sites, it can be seen that the demonstrators are carrying the "flag" of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Moldovan republic and the Russian flag, IPN reports.
Protesters' placards contain the wording "No to genocide against the Transnistrian people" and "Transnistria is an independent state".
According to the Transnistrian press, protests are being mounted at several checkpoints towards the Moldovan side, including Bender, Rybnitsa, and Dubăsari.
According to the spokesman of the Government of Moldova Daniel Vodă, the protests are part of the already known agenda to create tensions and escalate the security situation. "Following other protests staged in the region, we know that they are coordinated by the so-called authorities directed by Moscow," Daniel Vodă commented for the national press.
