The peaceful protest staged in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau could get out of control and could degenerate into violence. Such opinions were stated in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

Alexandru Slusari, a member of the Great National Assembly Council, said the ignoring of protesters’ demands by the government could lead to violence. “The people started to protest not now. We have protested since April and put forward the first demands then, but the rulers did nothing. They didn’t want a dialogue with us. We asked depoliticizing the law enforcement bodies and dismissing the National Bank governor, the prosecutor general and the director of the National Anticorruption Center. They took none of our demands into consideration,” he stated.

Journalist Dmitri Chubashenko, director of the newspaper “Panorama”, considers that the protests will intensify in October and will have unexpected consequences. The parliamentary parties of the left seek the resignation of the government because it is illegitimate. The Government and the protesters could reach a compromise. Those who are in power do not want to lose the power. The EU could also become involved as it is against holding early elections in Moldova,” he stated.

Former MP Stella Jantuan also considers that the authorities’ indifference will lead to the amplification of protests. “The rulers simply stall for time and wait for things to calm down. I don’t think those who are in power will accept a compromise,” she said.

Political analyst Vitalie Andrievschi noted the protesters should think up a roadmap. “The protesters want early elections, but it’s not known who will come to power after these. The resignations one after another will lead to nothing. We must change the system, not the people,” he said.
