Young members of the Initiative Group “Spirit Romanesc” (“Romanian Spirit”) protested Saturday in front of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, demanding that the Romanian authorities facilitate the adoption of laws allowing the Moldovans to enter Romania without needing to prove that they have 500 euros. The protest ended with reconciliation after two young men discussed with Romanian diplomats, Info-Prim Neo reports.
After protesting for 15 minutes in front of the Embassy, two young members of the Initiative Group “Spirit Romanesc” were invited to talk inside the Embassy.
After the dialog, one of the two men, Petru Jenac, said the representatives of the Embassy invoked the conditions imposed by the European Union for crossing the Prut. “They told us it was not Romania’s decision as Romania had to comply with the rules laid down by Brussels, including as regards the 500 euros. We were advised to go to the European Union’s Delegation in Chisinau, which could provide explanations,” he said.
Another member, Vasile Efros, said he was satisfied with the Romanian diplomats’ answer, but was dissatisfied with the way in which the political parties use the Bessarabian Romanians. “We do not attack the Government, the Presidential Office and the Parliament of Romania, but the Romanian political parties that use us in their politics games,” he said.
Petru Jenac said they will think what to do next. “We will possible go to the European Union’s Delegation to sensitize the EU authorities to these discriminatory conditions as many ordinary Moldovans encounter difficulties in obtaining a visa for Romania.”
According to the organizers, “Spirit Romanesc” is an apolitical group that promotes the Romanian national values in Moldova and carries out activities focusing on civic engagement and patriotism. It was set up in 2007 on the initiative of a group of Bessarabian Romanians.
