The Youth Organization of the People’s Party of the Republic of Moldova (PPRM) mounted a protest in front of Banca de Economii (“Savings Bank”). The organization’s head Ian Lisnevschi said a coup is being staged as a number of companies are appropriated by oligarchs, IPN reports.
Ian Lisnevschi stated that clear evidence of the illegalities committed at Banca de Economii was provided last week. The PPRM will demand that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Anticorruption Center verify this information. Parliament should become involved by creating a commission of inquiry.
The organization’s deputy head Maxim Braila said that society witnessed the illegalities committed at Banca de Economii last year, as a result of which the state lost the controlling interest in the bank. “The illegalities continue. The mafia and oligarchs who are behind the policies in Moldova are making effort to privatize this bank and we will remain a country that will have nothing,” he stated.
Last week, the head of the Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance Veaceslav Ionita said that a sum of US$120 million was stolen from Banca de Economii and that the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat was behind those illegalities.
