Representatives of a number of NGOs protested against the opening of the dolphinarium in Chisinau on May 27. With placards in their hands, the protesters came together near the Athletics Arena in Chisinau one hour before the inauguration. They chanted that the aquarium is nothing else but a jail for dolphins because these should live in the sea, IPN reports.

The animal rights defenders said the dolphins are intelligent animals, but they are not clowns. The mammals suffer when the people amuse themselves. The conditions in which the mammals are held shorten their life and affect their health.

These also said that the chemical substances used to disinfect the aquariums affect the skin and eyes of the dolphins that are very sensitive. The mammals are permanently hungry and are fed on frozen fish only after they do particular tricks.

This is the first dolphinarium opened in Moldova. There are four dolphins and two seals brought from Ukraine there. The administrator said the opening of the dolphinarium was coordinated with all the competent institutions and all the international norms were respected in this process. Also, all the conditions needed for keeping the mammals there were created.
