The protective mask was reintroduced as a mandatory measure on public transport and in enclosed areas in the Transnistrian region in a move to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A decision to this effect was taken by the region’s administration after the number of new cases of COVID-19 has grown considerably, IPN reports.

As many as 326 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the region. A total of 106 patients with COVID-19 are now being treated in the hospital. Five of them are in a serious state, while two patients are under intensive therapy.

The municipality of Chisinau remains under orange COVID-19 alert that was issued last week by the Chisinau Extraordinary Public Health Commission. As the authorities decided, the protective mask in Chisinau is mandatory in public health facilities and is recommended on public transport and in enclosed areas. As the number of new cases of COVID-19 has grown, the municipal authorities recommend those who didn’t get any vaccine to get the first two vaccine doses, while those who completed the vaccine series to also get a booster dose.

“We continue to have cases of infection with the Omicron variant that causes light forms of disease and most of the infected grownups do not need to be hospitalized for treatment. Treatment can be administered at the pace of say, at the domicile, through the family doctor. It was proven that the infection is caught primarily by the unvaccinated ones,” said the chief health officer of Chisinau Boris Gîlca.

According to the Ministry of Health, 1,852 cases of COVID-19 were recorded during July 4–10, up 82.8% on a week before. The persons with COVID-19 can receive treatment at ten health facilities where there are sufficient beds.
