The national medical institutions from both sides of the Nistru will receive personal protective equipment, such as protective glasses, medical gowns and surgical masks that form part of a donation to the value of over US$712,000 made by the World Health Organization and Germany to the Republic of Moldova. The donation consists of 100,000 pairs of glasses, 300,000 protective suits and 100,000 masks, IPN reports.

“Germany showed once again that solidarity and unity are values that form the basis of friendship and cooperation between countries. A new consignment of humanitarian assistance was delivered today to help our medical system to cope with the pandemic and to provide medical assistance to the population,” said Denis Cernelea, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection. According to him, the equipment will be distributed to all the medical institutions, depending on necessities.

Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau Angela Ganninger said the German people continue to offer support to the medical institutions from both sides of the Nistru. This way, after the humanitarian aid to the value of €9.6 million that was transmitted to Moldova last week, today they offer a new batch of humanitarian assistance. The medical equipment was purchased with funds of the Federal Government of Germany through the WHO. This way, Germany, forming part of Team Europa, comes with a clear proof of friendship and solidarity for all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

Igor Pokanevych, WHO Representatives and Head of the WHO Country Office in the Republic of Moldova, said that even if the number of infections with COVID-19 has declined, the frontline health workers continue their work and are exposed to risks to their health and life. Despite the diminution of the number of infections and the reporting of zero cases of death associated with the novel coronavirus on Monday, all the protective measures should be further obeyed. The donation will help to cope with an eventual third wave of infections.
