Protective equipment for the health system to the value of over €500,000 was donated today to the Republic of Moldova by Germany and the European Union, in partnership with the World Health Organization. The donation contains 1.6 million disposable face masks and 300,000 FFP2 masks intended for both of the sides of the Nistru, IPN reports.
“The Republic of Moldova has sufficient vaccines for all those who want. The health system constantly benefits from medical and protective equipment from our partners for saving lives. I’m optimistic that following the vaccination of more citizens and the observance of the protective measures, we will be able to return to normality,” President Maia Sandu posted on Facebook.
Germany’s Ambassador to Moldova Angela Ganninger said that together with the EU Germany lent a hand to the medical institutions that in the current times of pandemic face challenges. “Team Europa is a reliable friend and together we will manage to overcome this crisis,” said Ambassador Ganninger. Since the start of the pandemic, Germany offered a number of lots of assistance, including protective suits, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, etc. The German state also contributes to the COVAX Facility from which Moldova receives free vaccine.
Secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Igor Curov said the pandemic continues to affect the population and the doctors continue to struggle to save lives. That’s why the provision of the health system with equipment is still necessary.
The assistance forms part of Germany’s and WHO’s cooperation and the EU’s Solidary for Health Initiative.
