Prosthesis, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Center of Moldova becomes winner of international contest

The Republican Experimental Center of Prosthesis, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation was recognized as the best institution dealing with the prophylaxis of illnesses, healthcare and rehabilitation of war veterans and participants in local conflicts in an international contest. The Center won a special prize of $4 200 and was conferred the title Only Institution in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The contest that brought together 157 participating institutions from nine countries was organized by the Committee on Problems of Internationalist Soldiers under the Council of Prime Ministers of the CIS Member States. The competition aimed to assess the work of the hospitals and centers of medical, social, psychological and professional rehabilitation of the war veterans and participants in local conflicts and to stimulate improvement of service provision in the area. On the proposal of Moldovan, Russian and Belarusian representatives, the contest participants decided to form a consortium of rehabilitation centers and hospitals.
Vasile Ouatu, manager of the Center, told a news conference on Tuesday, February 13, that the Center is among the only institutions of this kind in Europe. The Center that occupies an area of 2 hectares provides all the necessary services for invalids – amputation, treatment, prosthesis, supply with gratis footwear, walking sticks and wheelchairs. It has diagnosis equipment, modern physiotherapeutic and kinetotherapeutic equipment.
The Center supervises over 70 000 patients suffering from diseases of the locomotory apparatus and war veterans.
