The prospects of the Eastern Partnership and the way in which Georgia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova as associate states can strengthen their relations with the EU at different levels were among the subjects discussed in the 17th Batumi International Conference that was attended by President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
“Together with the signing of the Association Agreement, the Republic of Moldova undertook to build a democratic and prosperous country for its citizens. The strengthening of state institutions, fighting of corruption, removal of the discredited judges from the system and building of a professional and upright public sector are elements of the European integration wanted by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, which they supported by their majority vote on July 11,” President Sandu posted on Facebook.
She noted that she banks on the European partners’ assistance in implementing the ambitious agenda aimed at cleaning the country and expressed her gratitude for the support from which the Republic of Moldova benefitted until now.
“In this connection, I underlined the importance of the Eastern Partnership as one of the instruments that will contribute to the transformation of our countries in the future too. I’m convinced that dynamic and synergic cooperation between Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine will help us to more efficiently use the opportunities offered by the European partners for the benefit of our countries and the whole European Union,” said Maia Sandu.
Also yesterday, President Sandu discussed with her Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Batumi. They agreed that after the new executive is formed in Chisinau, the governments of the two countries will have a meeting to work on bilateral agenda items that refer to the interests of Moldova and Ukraine.
Towards the end of July 19, Maia Sandu had a meeting with the President of the European Council Charles Michel. The interlocutors discussed the outcome of the parliamentary elections held in Moldova, the steps that will be taken after the formation of the Government and the actions of the new parliamentary majority.
“I thanked Mister Charles Michel for the €600 million economic recovery plan for our country that was announced by the European Commission at the beginning of summer and for the readiness to support the authorities of the Republic of Moldova to implement our reform agenda. The Republic of Moldova needs a profound internal transformation and the European Union remains an important partner in this process,” stated Maia Sandu.
In the 17th Batumi International Conference Maia Sandu and her Georgian and Ukrainian counterparts, Salome Zourabichvili and Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a Joint Statement of the Leaders of the Associated Partners of the European Union.
