The Anticorruprion Prosecutor’s Office has formally accused the ex-first lady of Moldova Galina Dodon of being an accessory in her husband’s unjust enrichment case. As a preventive measure, she may not travel abroad in the next 60 days.

Mariana Cherpec, spokesperson for the Prosecutor General’s Office, has told IPN that Mrs. Dodon is believed to have helped the former President Igor Dodon accumulate wealth estimated at over 21 million lei, which exceeds by far the 3 million lei amount officially declared by the couple over the period from February 2014 to October 2021.

Mrs. Dodon denies any wrongdoing and, according to Cherpec, has refused to give testimony about “the circumstances of the case”.

After the hearing today, Mrs. Dodon told reporters she thinks the case is politically motivated and aimed at “defaming” her husband.

Igor Dodon is currently under house arrest after being charged with unjust enrichment and illegal party financing, among other accusations.

Galina Dodon’s brother is in remand, being prosecuted in the same case.
