The General Prosecutor's Office has requested for the waiver of the parliamentary immunity of the Democratic Party MP Vladimir Cebotari and Șor Party MP Petru Jardan. The head of the legislature, Zinaida Greceanîi, made an announcement in this regard during the plenary session of Parliament.

According to procedure, the general prosecutor and the concerned MPs must attend the meeting of the Legal Committee for appointments and immunities, which is due to convene.

Following the announcement of the speaker of Parliament, PDM MP Pavel Filip said that the occurrence is a political scuffle which is far from the notion of rule of law. "We beseech you not to torment the prosecutor. We had a discussion this morning on this topic within the group, because this was known for a long time. The same was attempted with another case, but no arguments were found. Now, the same is attempted with another fabricated case. Our proposal, as agreed upon within our group, is for PDM MPs to renounce their parliamentary immunity and to allow the prosecutor to work in the General Prosecutor's Office. We understand that all these things are done for political show, which we disapprove of", said Pavel Filip.

The Legal Committee for appointments and immunities pointed out that "the parliamentary immunity is not a personal right of an MP and that the waiver of immunity can only be requested by the general prosecutor in specific circumstances".

The Honorary President of the PDM, Dumitru Diacov, requested a break during the Legal Committee session. The MPs are due to reconvene at 11:00.

In the current legislature, the first MP whose parliamentary immunity was lifted is the president of the Șor Political Party, Ilan Șor. Earlier this week, the immunity of MPs Marina Tauber and Regina Apostolova from the Șor Party was lifted.
