Prosecutors in 2014 examined almost 300 petitions concerning the violation of children’s rights. Of them, 66 petitions were accepted and classed as groundless. Among the issues that are most often invoked in the petitions are the non-payment of child maintenance allowance, the difficult living conditions, the disputes between parents regarding the domicile of children and the necessity of depriving one of the parents of parental rights, IPN reports.
According to a communique of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the petitions also refer to the provision of unsatisfactory social assistance services by the local public authorities, the institution of guardianship on children who remained without parental, inappropriate supervision of children owing to the parents’ migration abroad, child abuse, etc.
The prosecutors submitted 264 notifications and 14 appeals with a view to obtaining the removal of the identified violations. They also started two criminal cases, sent 32 notices to the central and local public authorities and filed 390 civil lawsuits in the amount of 6.7 million lei in the interests of children and other socially deprived persons.
As many as 41 applications for adoption were examined with the participation of prosecutors last year, as opposed to 18 applications in 2013.
